Riders in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 must register and collect their Rider Pack to be able to take part in the event. There are two registration options:
- Register at the Prudential RideLondon Cycling Show , ExCeL, 1 Western Gateway, Royal Victoria Dock, London E16 1XL.
- Register at the Information Point at Sandown Park on Ride Day.
Getting to the Start
The Start of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 is at Sandown Park racecourse, Esher, Surrey KT10 9AJ. We recommend cycling to the Start or using public transport. Please note the entrance for the event is located on More Lane.

e-bikes at Prudential RideLondon
For the first time in 2019, e-bikes are permitted in all Prudential RideLondon mass participation events, including the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19.
Only those cycles that comply with current UK/EU legal requirements for ‘electrically assisted pedal cycles’ (EAPCs) are permitted in the sportive.
EAPCs still require the rider to pedal and the electric motor, with a maximum power of 250 watts, cannot provide assistance when travelling at more than 25 km/h (15.5mph). Participants using e-bikes must still meet the age requirements for entering the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 (12 years old and above).
If you wish to participate in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 on an e-bike, you must inform us via firstname.lastname@example.org (stating your full name and date of birth) so you can be placed in a suitable start wave for safety reasons.
The Prudential RideLondon App
Riders in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 can track their time and position throughout the ride, and share the information with family and friends, by downloading the new app free of charge. Using the GPS tracking function in the new app increases the accuracy of the rider's position, making it even easier for friends and family to support riders on the route and meet them afterwards.
The app will be available to download for iOS or Android devices.
Please note: You must download the latest version of the Prudential RideLondon app to track your ride. Previous editions of the app will not allow you to do so.

Riders will depart in waves from Sandown Park in Esher. Riders will be notified of their start time by email in early July.

You must use a roadworthy and permitted bicycle in the sportive. See below for more details.
The following cycles are permitted in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19:
e-bikes – see above for more information.
Road Bike – probably the most common bicycle used in the event due to comfort and efficiency over a long distance.
Hybrid – typically more upright riding position designed for multi-surfaces. Usually more robust tyres and construction.
Mountain Bike – designed for off-road use with knobbly tyres. Comfortable but not efficient for a long road ride. Use slick tyres if riding on roads.
Single Speed – single speeds with a fixed or freewheel are permitted as long as they have two handlebar-operated brakes – one front and one rear.
Folding Bike – designed for the commute. Please consider carefully if this is the most appropriate bike to use.
Cruiser Bike – heavy, upright, minimal gears. Not designed for sportives. Although permitted, these bikes are not recommended for a 19-mile ride.
Tricycles – offers an option for those requiring more balance. Lightweight models designed to be efficient over long distances. Heavier than a road bike due to the extra frame and wheel. Please consider the suitability of this bike for the route.
Handcycles – All handcycles and hybrids – including tricycles and recumbent bikes – will be permitted at the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19.
Cycles that are not permitted
The following cycles are not permitted in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19:
- Fixed wheel with no brakes
- Fixed wheel with only a front brake
- Any bicycle with only one brake
- Penny Farthings
- Towed trailers
- Child carriers
- Tag-a-long trailers bicycles
- Trailer bicycles
- Cargo bicycles
- Specialist time-trial bicycles are not allowed as they do not allow for immediate control of the bicycle.
- Stride driven or stand up machines such as elliptical cycles
- Any bicycle without 360° rider visibility
- Unconventional handlebars (including triathlon bars, aero bars, clip-ons, prayer bars, Spinaci bars and cow bars) are not allowed.
- Handlebars without bar-end plugs are not permitted.
Tandem, tricycle and recumbent entries
For tandems, only one rider needs to have been successful in the ballot. Entrants with a disability will be charged £29. Entrants where neither rider has a disability will be charged for both riders at a total cost of £58.
If a rider has a disability and needs to ride a tandem bike with a guide, the guide rider will not be required to pay a fee.

As thousands of riders riders are expected to participate in the Prudential RideLondon sportives, it is necessary for us to restrict or prohibit various types of pedal bicycles and equipment for reasons of safety. It is our responsibility to manage the risks involved on the event day with the density of riders we are placing on the closed roads of the route. Our goal is to create a world-class, sustainable event that is safe and inclusive and we are still in the early phases of the development of this unique event.
We are sorry to disappoint certain groups of riders with the prohibition of certain equipment and exclusion of certain bicycle types. This is not a reflection on anyone’s personal ability, speed ability or skill level on a pedal cycle or with certain equipment. The decision is taken after a detailed review of the overall risks associated from a participant using such items or equipment to the large numbers of cyclists, who themselves have a very wide variation of skill level, participating in the event. The consequences for safety, accident rates and ultimately the time taken to complete the ride must be considered. We continually review our policies on permitted bicycles and equipment.
