James Dewar-Haggart and Rachel Ryves proved love is in the air at Prudential RideLondon – and now they are encouraging others to sign up and find their own Wheel Love!
The love-struck couple got engaged at last year’s Prudential RideLondon, with James getting down on one knee to propose to Rachel as she pedalled towards him.
They will be taking time out of their wedding preparations to return to the event this year where they will once again sample Wheel Love – this time in the form of a brand new activation for the 2017 Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle which takes place on Saturday 29 July.
Wheel Love will take place at Paternoster Square, St Paul’s, which has become a popular attraction for those looking for romance as it is where the hit Channel 4 programme First Dates is filmed.
Paternoster Square will be part of the St Paul’s Festival Zone, one of seven Festival Zones at Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle, which sees eight miles of central London roads made traffic-free and given over to cyclists.
First dates, couples who have seen plenty of dates, friend dates or any other dates can sign up at Paternoster Square to take a ride in one of our fantastic Wheel Love cycles at FreeCycle.
Cycle-mad husband and wife-to-be James and Rachel were the first to test out our Wheel Love cycles and they enjoyed the ride!
“There is no better way of getting out in London, getting to see all the famous sights on traffic-free roads and getting to spend time together as well,” said James, 34, a personal trainer from Southampton, after he and Rachel had given Wheel Love a spin.
“Cycling is definitely something that can bring a couple together. I work long hours, often six days a week and Rachel and I don’t get to spend that much time together, but we do cycle together a lot and it is a great way of spending time together, taking in the scenery and getting fit and healthy too.”
Rachel, 28, a PHD student, added: “It was the best day ever at Prudential RideLondon last year when James proposed to me. I had no idea at all and he had this little banner asking me to marry him as I was riding along, then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Obviously I said yes!
“Cycling is a big part of our lives together, we only really cycle together and it does bring us closer. We would definitely recommend it and Wheel Love is a fantastic idea. We love First Dates and we love cycling!”
To enjoy Wheel Love, sign up for Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle now.
The event is free and if you sign up before 14 June you will be sent a free tabard. Free goody bags will be available for all registrants from the Prudential RideLondon Cycling Show at ExCel from 27-29 July.
Prudential RideLondon is the world’s greatest festival of cycling and takes place between 28-30 July.
